Sycamore Trail Pedestrian Bridge
The City of West Sacramento set out to reconnect neighborhoods long divided by US-50 with a safer, low-stress option for walking and biking. Residents previously had to take a lengthy detour to reach schools, parks, and transit stops. Phase 2 of the Sycamore Trail responds to this need by creating an ADA-accessible route that expands mobility options.
Rising over US-50, the pedestrian overcrossing links Evergreen Avenue and Sycamore Avenue to the corner of Clarendon Street and Norfolk Avenue, connecting community assets such as Westfield Village Elementary and Joey Lopes Park.

Thoughtful design elements create a welcoming, identity-rich public space. Pedestrian-scale lighting minimizes energy consumption while enhancing nighttime safety. Native, drought-tolerant landscaping and biofiltration features strengthen ecological performance along the trail. Architectural elements, including colored concrete, wave-pattern staining, and custom metal silhouettes spelling out “City of West Sacramento,” add a distinct gateway experience for both trail users and freeway travelers.
Providing construction management and inspection, Consor’s team coordinated in this busy corridor with two active Caltrans projects. The team navigated tight freeway closure windows, adapted to evolving traffic-control constraints, addressed field issues quickly, and maintained close coordination with multiple project schedules to keep the work on track. These efforts supported the City in meeting critical milestones despite the complexity of building inside another project’s active limits. The result of this steady coordination is a bridge that strengthens daily mobility for the community.
