Poinciana Boulevard Widening and New Bridge Design

Consor provided 2.5 miles of roadway widening with new bridge design on Poinciana Boulevard from north of the CSX Railroad to south of Oren Brown Road. The project included the design of a four-lane urban/rural roadway with drainage outfall system and stormwater management pond, along with a new two-lane, 120-ft. bridge for the West Bank of Shingle Creek. The bridge has internal couplers with protectors in the deck and all bents, accommodating future widening. The project also included the design of a pedestrian bridge, utility coordination, permit application, signing and pavement markings, geotechnical exploration, design surveys, and right-of-way mapping. This project included the development of a Bridge Hydraulics Report including a scour analysis. Consor was responsible for the drainage design of stormwater management facilities and storm sewer systems to accommodate the widening to four lanes.

Additionally, the bridge design involved demonstration of floodplain compensation, design of open conveyance systems, and cross drain modification. We obtained both an Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) and Management and Storage of Surface Waters (MSSW) from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and prepared dredge and fill sketches for SFWMD, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Consor also designed the extension of a potable water main located along the widening.
