Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT) Design-Build

Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, Florida

Consor provided construction engineering and inspection services for this $145M design-build project. It included the widening and reconstruction of SR 821, the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT), to accommodate the future needs for capacity, operational, and safety improvements, from north of SW 184th Street (Eureka Drive) to south of SW 104th Street/SR 990 (Killian Parkway). It also included a new extension of SR 874 (MDX) through the interchange with HEFT. The project included the construction of a new express lane in the median along the corridor, toll gantry and buildings, ITS, drainage, MSE wall, soundwall, and landscaping.  The project also included the following:

  • All-Electronic Tolling (AET) express lanes on SR 821
  • Construction of MDX ramp connectors within Turnpike’s right-of-way
  • Surface street operations and capacity improvements

Project Highlights

  • Improvements created additional capacity, NB and SB express lanes, and operational and safety improvements
  • Total length of the project was approximately 4.9 miles
