Homestead Extension of
Florida’s Turnpike Design-Build

Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, Florida

We provided construction engineering and inspection services for this $145M design-build project. It included the widening and reconstruction of SR 821, the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT), to accommodate the future needs for capacity, operational, and safety improvements, from north of SW 184th Street (Eureka Drive) to south of SW 104th Street/SR 990 (Killian Parkway). It also included a new extension of SR 874 (MDX) through the interchange with HEFT. The project included the construction of a new express lane in the median along the corridor, toll gantry and buildings, ITS, drainage, MSE wall, soundwall, and landscaping. The total length of the project was approximately 4.9 miles. The project also included the following:

  • All-Electronic Tolling (AET) express lanes on SR 821
  • Construction of MDX ramp connectors within Turnpike’s right-of-way
  • Surface street operations and capacity improvements
