Mason Park Trail Bridge Over Brays Bayou

Houston, Texas

Consor managed and designed the 485 ft. Mason Park signature trail bridge over Brays Bayou, and the associated 10 ft. wide concrete shared-use path connections for a combined length of 1,750 ft. The bridge is a three-span continuous cable stayed steel truss bridge with a center span of 285 ft. The columns and cable towers are oriented at a skew, and each tower has aesthetic treatments using form liners. The center span is supported by three pairs of cables from each tower. Details were developed to minimize the visual impacts of the cable attachments to the tower and truss and for the LED lighting in the bridge rail.

This project also included many amenity improvements of the bridge and trail lighting, seating, plazas, and planting. We also performed hydraulics and hydrology and scour analysis for the bridge crossing.

The project was funded by Transportation Enhancement funding and was let for construction in 2016 by the Texas Department of Transportation. It required coordination with the Houston Parks Board, City of Houston, Harris County Flood Control District, Harris County Precinct 1, TxDOT, and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
