Highway 101 Multi-Use Overcrossing

City of Palo Alto, California

To improve safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists crossing Highway 101, the City of Palo Alto advanced a federally funded effort to construct a new multi-use overcrossing and extend the Adobe Creek Reach Trail. The project included construction and installation of a prefabricated steel truss bridge spanning the highway, along with concrete approach ramps and a secondary span over the Adobe and Barron Creeks confluence.

Consor served as the bridge construction engineer (structures representative) and structures inspector as part of the construction management team, representing the City of Palo Alto. Our team supported field reviews, technical submittal reviews, daily and project status reporting, and coordination with stakeholders, including Caltrans, the Cities of Palo Alto and Mountain View, Santa Clara Valley Water District, and Santa Clara County Water District. Additional elements included foundation work, railings and fencing, lighting, stormwater controls, crosswalks and sidewalks, and landscape and art features—all constructed within an active urban corridor and Caltrans right-of-way.
