CDOT Region 5 Safety Prioritization Study

Southwest Area, Colorado

CONSOR has led teams of engineers and planners to analyze crash data at over 100 intersections and corridors throughout Colorado. CONSOR has worked collaboratively with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) through all steps of the evaluation criteria, analysis, and preliminary design to build consensus while meeting the desired deadlines. For CDOT Region 5, CONSOR conducted crash analyses for rural and small town intersections and roadway segments. CONSOR used a three-phased approach in order to screen and prioritize a list of safety improvements at 72 intersections. The phased approach included a desktop analysis of crash data, field investigation, environmental assessment, and design recommendations for the final 15 prioritized locations, including multiple design alternatives at some locations, to help CDOT leverage funding most effectively. The recommended conceptual designs included everything from low-cost solutions such as signing and striping to more significant intersection rebuilds such as roundabouts.
