We’re big fans of how these unique retaining walls turned out at the completion of FDOT District 7’s I-175 / I-375 Landscape Improvements project. In addition to preventing slope erosion (a common problem across the state), the curved shape of these walls is a new approach that adds beauty to the corridor leading into downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. CONSOR served as the prime construction engineering and inspection (CEI) consultant on this landscaping project to create a more enjoyable travel experience for both daily commuters and tourists.

Maria Pena is #payingitforward by mentoring young

Maria Pena is #payingitforward by mentoring young people in populations underrepresented in #STEM fields. She’s been involved in STEM programs since her days studying civil engineering at the University of Central Florida, which helped her grow into the stellar structural engineer—and advocate—she is today.

“I love seeing a bridge I designed come to life, transforming from a 3D model to a structure many people drive over every day. I want young women and others not traditionally represented in engineering to feel that same sense of pride and accomplishment. That’s why I continue to be involved in STEM outreach and mentorship efforts. Through my involvement with Florida Engineering Society, I recently gave a presentation sharing the beauty of engineering to students at a local high school. Because teaching, sharing, and mentoring have always been a passion of mine, it was beyond rewarding to hear that they wanted me to come back next year! My goal is to be a community leader inspiring younger generations to become engineers.” - Maria

We love working with our clients to deliver the best possible project outcome within our specified budget. It is especially gratifying when we can find ways to make these funds go farther—benefitting our clients and the communities they serve! This is exactly what we did on St. Lucie County’s Gordy Road Bridge replacement. When our team was tasked with providing CEI services for the construction of the new bridge, we quickly digested the contractor’s scope and schedule to determine we could deliver the requested services in the same time frame, but with only half of the required staff! #CEI #CivilEngineering #ProjectHighlight

It’s awesome to watch our people grow in their careers and take our company to new heights in the process. When Tyler Nord joined in 2012, he didn’t know he’d one day be leading a team. But creating great relationships, instigating office shenanigans, and saying yes to every growth opportunity has led to a well-deserved promotion as Group Lead for our Portland Roadway team. While he’s still getting used to being called someone’s “boss,” he’s determined to provide the same mentorship and growth opportunities he was given over the past 10 years.
